Scotland

The first Knuston Scotland Counselling and Empowerment Course was held at the Stirling Court Hotel, University of Stirling, in late October 2025. Fifteen delegates from across Scotland attended, with experienced facilitators travelling from England to support the delivery of the course.

Knuston Scotland follows the same curriculum, course structure and timetable as the established programme in England. We welcome course participants who are working in any role where counselling and empowerment skills are of value in their client interactions, not just those from diabetes teams. Feedback from the October 2025 course was uniformly positive and closely mirrors the feedback consistently reported from Knuston England courses.

Knuston Scotland was successfully registered as a charity in Scotland (a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation – SCIO) on 6 November 2025. Knuston facilitators are experienced healthcare professionals, both active and retired, who give their time voluntarily. Facilitators receive reimbursement of expenses and may receive an optional honorarium for their work.

At present, the course is sustained primarily through participant course fees. However, many healthcare professionals, particularly those in non-medical roles, are unable to attend due to limited access to study leave funding to cover course fees and travel costs.

Knuston courses equip healthcare professionals to support people living with a long term condition through person-centred conversations that lead to meaningful and sustainable change.

SCIO status enables Knuston Scotland to accept charitable donations to support a bursary fund. We plan to seek support from donors within the pharmaceutical and medical device sectors. All donations are accepted on the clear understanding that donors have no influence over course content or delivery.

Donated funds will be used to:

  • Provide bursaries for healthcare professionals whose employers cannot fund course participation

  • Support the training of new Knuston course facilitators

  • Develop and maintain Knuston Scotland’s digital presence

If you or your organisation are interested in supporting Knuston Scotland, please download our Information for Donors document below, which provides further details about how donations are used and how to contact us.
