Helen Hopkinson

I have worked as a diabetes physician for over 30 years, most of that time as a consultant in Glasgow. I am passionate about supporting self-management for people with diabetes and am a past Chair of the DAFNE Executive Board. I have served as Clinical Lead for Type 1 diabetes in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and more recently as clinical lead for diabetes technologies.

I discovered the Knuston course later in my career and value the significant impact it has had on the quality of my clinical consultations, both in diabetes and in general medicine. As a participant, I found the experience inspiring and rejuvenating. I particularly value the shift from a traditional medical agenda towards exploring what matters most to the person, which I see as a powerful and effective route to empowerment through person-centred care.

In 2025, I am leading a pilot course in Stirling known as Knuston Scotland. I am committed to remaining faithful to the original course design and am grateful for the support of experienced facilitators helping to establish this new venture. I hope this will become a regular part of the Knuston programme and improve access for clinicians in the north of the UK.
